Description

Viña Olabarri Gran Reserva Rioja (Spain) 6 bottles for $172.80

Ruby with brick-red glints, proper of a careful ageing. Textbook nose of deep, spicy currant fruit mingling with earth and a little mint. Powerful and gutsy on the palate yet refined and well behaved; a genuine, very traditional Rioja for a hearty dish.

Hedges Red Mountain Syrah Cuvee Marcel Dupont (Washington state) 6 bottles for $172.80

Dark purple, almost black color. Dried fig and blueberry compote. Chocolate cherry, black licorice and cinnamon spice. Just a hint of smoke, leather and cocoa make for an interesting nose that you could smell for hours. The palate is rich and lush with flavors of earthy cocoa, blueberry pie and a pinch of cinnamon. The finish is long and very well structured. The Syrah from Hedges continues to make interesting and complex wines with a wonderful balance of concentration and immediate drinkability. Will stand to wild venison.

Giovanni Chiappini “Felciaino” Bolgheri Rosso (Tuscany) 6 bottles for $135

Single vineyard named Felciaino, crafted from 10% Sangiovese, 40% Merlot, 50% Cabernet sauvignon. Intense ruby-red color, a structure of great fruit and smoothness, with notes of spices providing it with complexity and diversity. An outstanding structure able to evolve gradually and to refine itself even over years, enhancing especially its characteristic olfactory qualities. Grill that Bisteca!

Ellena Giuseppe Barolo (Piedmont) 6 bottles for $216

Wine Enthusiast 90 points “Aromas of ripe berry, fragrant blue flower and a whiff of Alpine herb lead the nose. The generous palate offers juicy black cherry, crushed raspberry, cinnamon and licorice alongside firm, fine-grained tannins. Drink 2018–2023.” Perfect for a truffle flavored risotto.

Chateau Le Bosq St-Estephe (Bordeaux) 6 bottles for $216

Wine Enthusiast 93 points

A lean, muscular St-Estephe, this wine has a pure black-currant flavor, sunny, firm and powerful. There’s some austerity in the tannic structure, the fruit dense enough to completely fill it, tightly bound and waiting to develop over the coming decade. Very spicy and fresh with floral and currant character. Full to medium body and regal structure and intensity. Chocolate, tea and berry flavors. Tannins are polished and focused. Excellent finish. Drink in 2021, decanted with your favorite meat dish.

Boisson Creation d’Emilie Châteauneuf-du-Pape (Rhone) 6 bottles for $189

From parcels of old vines, hand harvested and carefully vinified; 20% is matured in large oak barrels for 12 months; bold yet graceful with bright red fruit flavors and hint of spice, bacon and leather, a rich and concentrated palate and smooth, long finish. Perfect for game.
